I'm trying to find the original break/samples/tunes used on my fave hip hop tracks i.e marlena shaw, bob james, james brown. I've found one website http://members.accessus.net/~xom… which seems to have loadsa stuff, but the search by artist doesn't work and there's too many to search through to find what I'm looking for. Can anyone recommend a similar site that works. thanks in advance.

No, I don't know another one, but you gave me an excellent idea for a site. I'd like to stay in touch with you as I have been doing some hardcore sampling with an AKAI lately. I've been getting into samplng directly from vinyl and cleaning it up with software and then sequencing it. Or leaving it dirty in some cases.

So true about what he says in that site -
BEATS: 10. Watch the year. Other's will of course will disagree with this time-line, but I think you will be best off if you stick to these years:Funk, Soul and R&B: 1968-1974
Jazz: 1968-1974
Rock and Pop: 1970-1979

Sample FAQ is THE site for samples and breaks. I always use it for my researches. I found nearly 500 mp3 samples on Audiogalaxy and Napster (R.I.P.) with its help.
You can also find some nice informations about samples and breaks on these websites:
