hey.
well... ok. i just moved back to edmonton from montreal where i was working for 2 years. and was in ottawa LOADS (love love the national gallery). ---
so. i would just say. if you have the opportunity to live somewhere new, do it. calgary ya, is like 1 hour from the mountains, with wicked hiking, biking, etc. in the summer, and skiing, snowboarding, etc in the winter. plus.... has a decent downtown core considering the size of the city.
rent prices..... well definitely expensive. however.... ottawa is pretty expensive now as well. they're very comparable.
edmonton is about 3 hours away. and has stuff to do as well (whyte ave in my opinion is pretty ass. it's just loaded with bars, and fights most of the time.). but we also have west ed, and our downtown is getting rejuvinated.
compared to the east, it's WAY more relaxed, which i really like. (it's good to have a car though). it's quiet, people are generally really polite. so go for it dude. new experiences are what make you grow right?

It's too cold

"whyte ave in my opinion is pretty ass. it's just loaded with bars, and fights most of the time."
hmnnn... as a frequenter of whyte ave, i feel this is a misconception. whyte ave is a pretty decent place to hang out, even during the day... pretty cool shops and cafes along with all the bars... and at night, if you avoid the kind of places where guys driving rice cars go, you generally avoid fights. i see very few fights (although my roomate did crack his head open falling down the stairs at the black dog the other night).
although, ever since the "nightclubs" starting pushing the pubs off the ave, it has been getting lamer.
and i noticed you didnt mention the oilers. we also have the oilers.

Greetings fellow calgarians.
How's it goin', EH?As a native Calgarian, presently living in S.Korea(anotherstory), I feel the city has a lot going for it.
The people are great, even the rednecks are friendly for the most part, unless you insult their truck or their bucklebunny.
The winter sucks but chinooks are a blessing. The mountains are worldclass and easy to get to.
The industry is corporate but the jobs are solid and the art comm is growing. ACAD was rated one of the best MM schools in Canada by Shift Magazine.
The nightlife could be better but you can find what you are looking for. Cherry Lounge is great and the Gallery is always happening.
Among many others...If you skate, Millenium Park is amazing and the Source park is the best indoor park I have ever been to.
Edmonton = Industrial/Rundown
Lethbridge = Fun but very windy
BC is where it's at but very expensive.IMHO, Calgary is the happy medium in Western Canada.
But try it yourself.....Have a good one....
BTW - Oilers SUCK
- neeko0
The Oilers suck!?? Edmonton rundown?
If I was a little more clever i'd think of some great e-insult, and really put you in your place.
I suppose it is industrial on refinery row.
we have a great big mall though... with waterslides and submarines and penguins. cant beat that action.
