I don't know if this thread is still on, but
I got the tits up boot from the company I worked for straight out of $chool, thought I hated it - but boy - back in a second for the stability of crappy layout of pap john's coupons

all i am saying is that luck is not part of the equation.... i worked my ass off to get a good paying job.... and now in this economy it seems hard to get a shitty job...
its not even about the money... i would work for much less if it was a cool exciting stable job, but last time i looked those were out of existence.
peace to ya all

maybe "lucky" was the wrong word... you seem to have taken it pretty personally.
all i am saying is that there are plenty of people out there who may have been in a very simiilar situation to you, but have been given the old heave ho, thanks to the industry upheaval. that is the "lucky" part of what im saying.
i feel for you being stuck in a shit job, but at least youre getting good beans for it (i hope)

do what i do -
work at your corporate job. sit at your desk and do your work. smile and drink your coffee and joke and be a slave like everybody else, BUT -
...at the same time, run your own business while you're at work, make money both ways, maintain the corporate security yet live the goodness doing freelancing through your own company.
revel in the fact that you're bucking the system and making yourself happy, that you're sticking a shiv in the system and coming out on top.
ideally, you can still do your normal day job too, i know i do, and bullshit your way around people realizing you're actually posting on newstoday and designing CD covers and looking at porno and whatnot...

Been in the same position - took ages to have courage to leave - ended up ready to hand in my notice the same week i got laid off - no pay off, nothin!
if you cant afford to leave immediately, try to be inspired by other stuff... however exhausted you are after the job (print t-shirts/pitch for freelance jobs on the side..) - all of a sudden you feel maybe you could afford to leave after all and work for yourself - maybe not make stacks of cash, but damn it feels good not having to compromise on shit jobs and stare at those idiots in some suck office every day.
thats what i did and i'm surviving - and a million times more happy and positive than i was. there's hope out there somewhere.
