Noisy G4 & cold

I turned on my G4 yesterday and it's suddenly making a sharp, hard noise. When I shut it down, I also notice a different sound than usual from the fan, like it's rotating slower.
What is strange, is that this started from the moment it started freezing here. My room isn't very well isolated and thus quite cold during nighttime.
Is cold bad for my mac? Or do you suspect something else like a dusty fan etc.?
What a shame: been a mac head since I was 11, but if you almost pay the double amount than for a pc, you want quality, right? And this baby is only 10 months old!
Can you figure it out?

Pour a hot cup of coffee in the CD drive. That should sort it.

open it up and look at the fan:P if its not dusty, then you got a problem. maybe a hard drive. Its not a typical 'mac problem'. i've had my G4 for 3 years, and nothing has gone wrong (fingers crossed).

Apple doesn't make their own fans. Open your case and give it a drop of 3-in-1 oil. Zzzzz

"maybe a hard drive."?
you fucking dolt, explain to my how your harddrive would affect your fan.

he means there are really only two things in the case that could be making a noise, the fan or the hardrive. If it's not the fan, "maybe a hard drive."
why am I mediating?

How cold is cold?
My office gets cold since it was an addition to the house
(not part of the central air/heating system)but it only gets to like maybe 50° F at the coldest
the coldness wouldnt really change anything except maybe make some of the materials contract a tiny tiny bit, which could account for noise - but it would quiet down after it warmed up a bit . . .
If it's a G4/G3 you can just open the door while it's running and figure out where the sound is coming from easily
it's also possibly a cable is touching a fan and causing the noise.
You better hope it's not your harddrive - but those usually make a really nasty click grind sound when they're going bad . . .

i'll ask my grammy to knit your mac a sweater

get a fuckin clue, netizen..if the fan isn't making noise, its probably the hard drive...name something else that makes a loud noise in your case?!

That's all fine and dandy, but someone explain why my Firewire port is talking to me right now...it's telling me to kill.

Thanx guys.
I also contacted the reseller, and they simply told me to install a new HD. Dummies!
I am sure it is the fan, I know the sound of a HD screwing up.
But I still got a warranty so I think I'm just sending it back.... when I'm a bit less busy :)
