Well, interesting to see it was colder then Finland here for at least one day....
-12°C night / -4°C day
By the end of the week it won't freeze anymore tho....

Have the dikes freezed yet? I have heard that you have some kind of semi-annual skating event, which takes place only if it is cold enough.

yeah...that's legendary..It's called the Elfstedentocht... 200 km. of skating on natural ice..
Has been a while since last event tho... Europe is getting warmer.. :(
It hasn't frozen long enough for it to happen now...and it will get warmer by the end of the week.
I do recall we have an alternative each year, which is held in either Austria or Finland, i believe..

Yeah, I think I have seen it in the news earlier. the long-distance skating semi-pros have come over here and whupped the few locals participating. It is funny that people in Holland do so much skating even though the climate is pretty mild over there. Consequently they need to build huge indoor skating rinks for it too. :)

I believe it was the Netherlands who brought (pro)skating to a whole new (commercial) level.
Being a professional ice skating athlete is very lucrative here right now.

but prolly not as bad as in UK...i heard yesterdays commuters are still stuck today on various motorways? Spending their nights in their cars?
In a few mins someone will pick me up, going the 20 miles by small bus in thick mist, snow and icy roads...wish me luck.

why does london fall to fucking pieces when temperatures go below 0 and theres a touch of snow. the tubes were in bits and there were no gritters or salt on the roads...
