after many months of research, found this place:
http://www.partydown.com/
which sells auxiliary input adaptors for various factory cd/radios (interface through unused cd changer port) such as Honda Accord. It's not on their website, but you can call a toll free number.

paul, what is the cost? did you install it yourself? what does it take to do?
i have a 2002 jetta with a 6 cd changer in the trunk. i would be willing to lose functionality of the changer to gain a direct input for my iPod.
i have the iRock. it's horrible. i took it back to apple and they credited me the $20 it cost and i bought a cassette adapter (i have the stock monsoon system from vw). the cassette adapter is still not quality, but it does work.
have any photo's of your hook up?

You may find with the iRock that it is better if you actually put your aerial down... it'll thne stop you picking up other radio stations than your little ipod one :)

so i lose all radio for the sake of iPod? and take the antenna off the top of the jetta, leaving only a small stump? that's like taking all my 45 degree arrows away from my design toolbox! or trashing my flash player plugin. simply absurd!

i just pre ordered one of these, but it won't be out 'till next month.

Very handy.

It's not exactly a hardship is it! If you can't do that quit moaning about it.

xrusos,
it was around $75. installing involved plugging it into the cd changer port on the back of the radio (taking radio out and putting it back in). Then you feed an rca jack wire out to the front anway you can. Or see if you already have an auxiliary jack on your cd changer, or can add one!

There are plenty of cd players with auxilary jacks in the front.

it took you 'many months' to figure that out? :)
- xrusos0
yes, but when you have a sweet stereo already, it doesn't justify buying a new stereo.

the "many months" part was finding someone with the specific adapator for my specific car model.
the reason I didn't buy a new car stereo with an auxiliary input is I don't like the way they look in the dashboard-- I actually bought an mp3 cd player a couple of years ago and took it out

Transpod II features cassette tape adapter -
DLO is accepting orders for TransPod II, the newest version of its unique car solution that allows iPod owners to conveniently use and enjoy their iPods in their cars. The TransPod II allows users to simultaneously charge, mount, and listen to their iPods through their car stereos. It has the same "sleek" design of the original TransPod, but features a cassette tape adapter and auxiliary cord that plug directly into a user's car stereo instead of the FM transmitter found in the original TransPod. The original TransPod plays the iPod through a FM transmitter. It ships with two charger sticks and a dash mount option. It will start shipping on May 1st for $100
