So me as a wanna be designer, I believe that you can teach yourself anything and everything, even how to be creative but that's another story. So what I've noticed is that the better you can draw the better your design is, truth or myth?? I have a sketch book where I scribble down design ideas but nothing fancy how or what should I do to improve my drawing skills? Any good books? Or should I just forget about it because you either have it or not?
The worst thing I've done is to dump fine arts classes, right?
Rememeber I'm not a designer nor an artist (just your usual accountant). I just like the visual interpretation you can create if you do it very well (print, motion, web, 3d, you name it). Gimmie some insights please and help a brother out.

you can't learn talent, but you can learn skill. drawing is a talent and a skill. the best have both.

totally can be taught, understanding structural light and dark, and the perspective., another myth about artist is they dont use grids or projectors for there paintings/drawing, and a hell of alot of them do. realism artists use them aton. anyways its just understanding the process.and techniques, everyone is creative.

of course you can teach drawing. that's why there are drawing classes. and i learned that you need to learn how to look at things as shapes and their relationships, so as not to add your own perceptions that are ingrained into your brain.
why was this topic brought back from the dead?

here's a good starting book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain http://www.amazon.com/exec/obido…
start with still life around you, draw, sketch or paint everything and anything around you. then when you're confident enough, start attending figure drawing classes, this will help you develop gesture, emotion, form and style.
just keep drawing, it's a skill that can easily be lost if you don't do it enough. however, it's like riding a bike when you've got the hang of it.

i agree with jking. about the book, and everything else.

Yes you can learn to draw. I used to be very talented at drawing in high school but then when I did my degree in design & photography, I stopped drawing - no time, found it easier to take a photo, etc.
Now after working as a designer for 3 years I'm getting the hunger to draw again - for the sheer pleasure of it.
I started a night course at Central st martins and am loving it. I like the class as opposed to a book because it's immediate - makes you draw for drawings' sake and get feedback. I am challenging my whole notion of what a "good" drawing is, and I am allowed to operate outside of all the rules I have learnt as a graphic designer.
Talent is just passion combined with skill. Both wither if you don't feed them.

It's all gained in repetition of practice. Do that for a while and you will have learned the skill. Style can't be taught...but basic drawing can.
