do you as a designer have direct contact with clients or does a project manager get all art direction, etc. ?
very curious...

yea, its half-half. only prob is: what if the manager can't cope with the problems our job has. it annoyed me to do it in a stupid chain: making layout -- explaining to manager -- he talks to the cust -- cust complains manager -- he yells on me.
since i've3 more customer contact the customers can be satisfied very easily and we -- yeah -- had reduce of costs cause we fired the manager & didn't look for a new one. ok, now i do both jobs, but i like that more

but the agencies policy is: no talk between graphics/customers. that created 1 problem:
none of the graphics (except kodeine) thinks, means if they have a prob they slowly walk to the manager and ask what to do -- while i grab the fone, call the cust and explain him my problem PLUS a solution. its more work again....
and: our boss has fear! he thinks if graphics have direct contact they could "steal" the highly valuable customers from his lousy agency. what a moron!

I've never dealt with any client or decision makers while working on full-time jobs. So my orders are always filtered through so and so and I never really know who's decision it is.
But if I did have client interaction at work, I'd charge ten bucks extra for any contact.
