In italy is the opposite, there are many good young designer but companies and institution doesnt care.. for instance during the salone week in the Triennale (the main Design museum of milano) there were 4 exhibition:

as a design student at school we studied these great names, but none of new. We have a enormous hole in Knowing contemporary Design. I dunno if it depends from the teachers, who are "old" themselves, or
from the big separation between design schools and companies, or from the fact that everyone who wants do something of important goes abroad, 'cause in Italy actually there is too little space and support for creativity.
