Make sure you are optimizing for a 'progressive download' when you are compressing.
some qt files are optimized for streaming...
some qt files are optimized for quality and will not begin playing until almost the whole thing is downloaded...
the 'progressive download qt' settings almost mimic the speed of streaming but you don't need a streaming server...
or go and download darwin streaming server and start having some real fun...
