    portland's actually one of the only cities in the us of its size not to have so much of a suburb problem. everyone rides their bike everywhere. there's only a downtown, because of the growth boundary, so you're never more than 15 minutes from anywhere else. in that respect, it feels a lot bigger than it is, because the whole shebang is contained within a 5-mile radius. the biggest gripe i have with pdx is the gentrification plague. pdx does have a ghetto. it's called vancouver, wa.
