    mac uses powerpc
    windows uses intel x86

    and no, mac is not leaving powerpc anytime soon, they're already getting ready to use the IBM Power4 970 chip. 64-bits, 2.5ghz, 900 fsb...it's all but confirmed. that should close the gap, if not beat it.

    osx on x86 rumors were hot two months ago, but it seems the idea is that apple will release it if microsoft pisses them off sufficiently.
