make it something where a short time in each other's company can be a reasonable thing (and you don't have to do the cell phone-emergency crap) like lunch hour. At worse, you have a yucky hour as opposed to a full evening of yuckiness if you go out on an evening date.
The last blind date i went on made me chase his truck. that bastard.
