  Got towed in Tokyo last month. Overstayed a meter by 15 minutes! Came back, car was gone, they wrote where it went to on the pavement in chalk and put a number to call. Went to the local police station, paid 14,000 Yen (140 dollars) and drove away.
  Then got a 200 dollar towing fee from the tow company they used.

  Total damage: 340 dollars and 2 points on my license.
