I think each has a strenght and weakness...
PSP, after having seen sample videos, looks like it's games a very superior to DS, screen looks nicer (and bigger) controls are tight also. As a handheld game device it is really perfect where the DS looks to be somewhat weaker. The dual screen for games doesnt appeal to me at all. It's like Nintendo tried to rehash the design of those old flip-top cheap game/watch LCD games it used to peddle back before consoles became it's cornerstone.
But then for an internet/communications device, DS looks better to me. The keyboard on the PSP doesnt look right.. it's looks like it would be a pain in the ass to use but then I would have to try one out before saying anything.
There are alternatives to both of these also... mainly the GamePark32 (GP32) , Tapwave Zodiac, and Gizmodo. The latter two are PDA/game device hybrids. These can run emulators and play hundreds of MAME ROM's, atari,apple,pc,c64/128 emulators as well as games designed for the systems. (plus divX, mp3, etc and in some cases Linux environment).
