    i just spec'd a server for $850.
    amd64, 1gb ram and 4x 200gb sata drives in a raid 10 config (that's a mirrored 400gb of usable space for the normies).

    you could drop the drives to a raid 1 with just 2 satas and use the left over cash to get your fancy graphics card and a nice monitor or two.

    and, you can too use autocad on a laptop. i did it my entire existence in architecture at drury.
