i can't possibly imagine american embassy ever supporting designers.

(May 10 05, 10:13)that's a major difference between europe and north america in terms of cultural funding. in namerica is supposed that design and art should be like private enterprise and exist on their own for the purpose of the economy. europe recognizes that cultural funding leads to better economy through spin off revenues.
it's something that a group of us out here are trying to get the gov't to understand. that design is a rich export. not only in terms of culture but as a commodity. it's a tough sell though. in canada the best exports are still lumber and minerals.
