I wouldn't say that Toshiba laptops are one of the best. I'd have to say that the top tier laptops are IBM and Apple and maybe Dell (although I'm not a fan of any of their machines). Below them would be Toshiba and Sony.
I currently own a Toshiba Satellite. The HD crapped out in less than a year. Hence why I'm in the hunt for a new laptop.
If you're heart isn't settled on the Toshiba, take a look at the Asus V6. Its on the Sonoma platform. If you have no idea who Asus is, they are the original design manufacturers for Sony, Apple, etc.
Other places too look is the Alienware Sentia, Winbook, Averatec.
Look up notebookforums.com and notebookreview.com for some good reading.
