ah. but it is niche marketing. much like design.
i don't give two craps about someone's fancy flash animation...but 'someone' does.
see, you may not care about a show on fixing up old cars. but people who like shows about fixing up old cars will. podcasting offers people the ability to cater to a niche audience.
for example. i listen to lug radio from europe. it's a talk show about linux. something so niche that no traditional radio service would cover it. and, you wouldn't care about the content...but i find it interesting.
from a business point of view, it is an incredible marketing opportunity. you can tailor ads and such directly to a certain demographic. and, at a more fine grain level than ever before.
a couple of friends who no longer work here at the station are starting a podcast show on and for fantasy sports dorks. they already have a localized following and hints of start-up capital are starting to materialize.
and, as far as radio technology...digital audio deliver and audio over ethernet technologies are making it quite interesting, again.
boards, mixers, etc...that all work over cat6 and gb switches...no more heafty audio cabling in studios...better interaction with voip and automated delivery systems...
:)
