I will point out that my comment above doesn't pertain to legitimate reasons for this type of audio distribution. Sparker, I agree with what you said, it is likely very useful for those situations.
But I have read several articles in papers about the growing popularity of podcasting, and, well, sorry, but I don't put much stock in the average Joe who wants to ramble on about the Cubs, or fixing cars, or whatever.
To that point, blogs probably have an advantage in that the content can be searched, rather than sitting through an hour of a podcast to hear what you need to know in the final 5 minutes of airtime.
