I feel MA courses are places to push the envelope in design via research and understanding.

It's a springboard not just for experimental work, but the development of new processes and understandings of the field we’re in.

Which leads me to believe that with out practical industry experience, it’s hard to bring any kind of pragmatic innovation to the course/your education/the industry.

In my experience, I found that an MA (if required by the individual) should begin only after two or so years in the industry. I ventured to get my MA directly from my BS, only because it was entirely paid for.

I don’t know that an MA should be pursued with respect in mind more than it should self growth and betterment.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread, that the idea of pursuing an MA has to do with education itself, which I agree with i.e. your not going to relearn Photoshop CS2 are you.

Another year or two years of intense educational experience with emphasis on research and focus on visual communication should lead to good things.

Again, as someone else keenly pointed out, this is an individual venture and should be treated as so.

The University of Choice is important. Very Important.
