I never voted, me mam always votes lib dem for me when she gets me ballot thingy oop norf.
Guy at work asked me - "so who you voting for?" I said, can't be fucked. Then he said "People died for your right to vote!"
Died for my right to vote?? Fuck off! No one died for my right to vote. Not in this country anyway. The only people who can say "someone died for my right to vote" are women. Women did die for the right to vote. But that's no moral obligation to vote.
That's like all the old men who march on VE Day, and everyone proclaims "they died for our freedom!" 'they made all these sacrifices for us!".
No they didn't. They died for their own freedom. They sacrificed for themselves, for their own people 60 years ago. There's no historical obligation to our forbears or ancestors. They were 19/20 year old kids called up to fight. If i' get called up to fight, I will, if my time comes. But I won't be doing it for my grandchildren and their childrens childrens.
People's self interest benefits society as a whole. Greed is good. It's the principle of the free market system.
I'm not morally obliged to vote - just because it was hard won. Over centuries. Economic development, and radical social changes made adult suffrage inevitable. Social changes that happened on the individual level.
I don't need the vote to make a political statement. I am a political statement. My whole life is a political statement. Bio-political. Bio-political mass of people. A global mass of changing, moving, evolving, monads connected in Deluezian rhizomatic networks. Horizontal networks, not vertical ones.
My vote is a means to an end, not an end it itself. If the constitution is there to prevent despots, then that’s great. But that’s not the final battle. The right to vote in hierarchical government will not enact my political will, or help me engage with the nexus.
I got bigga fish to fry.
Having said that, it'd prolly be nice to see Blair get a twatting, and to see Conservatism as a political force being wiped out of the UK would be worth it to. But then conservatism has a way of rearing its ugly head everywhere. So it's good that party exists to give an outlet to all those racist xenophobes who'd otherwise vote BNP or Kilroy.
So, i dunno
do YOU?
