i think the point here is not that the umd will replace the dvd, 'cause it just won't. a dvd holds like 6 or 7 gigs of information, while a umd's capacity is a mere 1.8. the resolution of umd movies is also downsized to fit the psp screen, and i don't think it would hold up well on a big screen tv.
the point here is that it's a more mobile format. sure, you can pay 300 for a travel dvd player, but why, when you can pay less for a psp AND have the bonus of it being the most sophisticated handheld gaming device ever concieved, which also has support for image viewing and music?
