Duinen Abbey Ale
One of the earliest monasteries to embrace the new beverage "beer" was the Abdij ter Duinen (Abbey of the Dunes) founded in Koksijde, Flanders, Belgium in 1107. For over 400 years the Abbey operated its beloved brewery prior to its closure in 1566, and its eventual destruction some 200 years later during the French Revolution.
I popped open a bottle of Duinen this evening. Not bad but not one I'd likely pick up again considering many better Dubbel choices out there. If you don't mind an ale with a bit of a sweet taste, give it a try.
