i'm on mac osx using suitcase:
- i keep all my fonts on one designated FONTS partition.
- i've got all my fonts divided in folders for their foundry or designer. i find this is the easiest way to classify fonts.. if i need a T26 style font, i go look in T26 etc etc. the foundry defines the style. if a font doesn't have a known designer, then its prolly not worthy of my time to file.
- i drag and drop my fav foundry folders into suitcase.. keeping a select few on hand at all times, and loading up specialty stuff as temp fonts when i need them (for auto temp fonts drop on suitcase icon in the dock).
hope that helps... i 'd be interested to hear some other techniques.
