  I was reading your gradient mesh thing (i printed it out) yesterday and realised 'OH, THAT's HOW YOU DO IT!!!!' ... YEEEEEAHAHHAHAHAHA!' so thanks for that.... it's so obvious now... the key is absolutely that 'template layer thing'.
