My first question to you was going to be why are you shooting RAW if you don't need the latitude it offers. But after quickly skimming www.dpreview.com detailed review of your model camera, I can see why. They claim the differnce between the jpg and RAW is night and day.
You might want to check that out (assuming you haven't)

Sadly, I don't know much about pentax digital cameras. I myself use leaf and canon primarily. Had you been using canon, I was going to suggest CaptureOne software made by phase One.

It's probably the best designed camera software around. It's a bit pricey, and it only works with canon, nikon, and phase one cameras.

I wouldn't concern yourself with the time it takes to process the image. you should be more concerned with the end quality. I would do a comparison of processing in photoshop CS vs. the pentax software. Use what works the best for you. I know that processing Canon files in Canos software works better than in Photoshop CS. But that's my preference. Maybe CS2 will change all that.

Anyway, check out dpreview and read it for yourself. Those guy's suggested some pretty good sites earlier, so check those out.

    Good luck.
