did you tell him it was stolen because the door was up? maybe then he'll/she'll be like oh man, can i give you money.
if you did already and they made no mention of it they probably won't and will make a fuss about it.
so in the end, if they don't pay or give you cash, leave your door open the next garbage night, wake up at 3am, slash all four of his tires, (and let the air out of two of yours for good measure and not to cause suspicion) and then go back to sleep knowing you're even.
