1. Get 2 or 3 good, steady clients. Small agencies that don't staff in-house what you specialize in.
2. Save every freakin' dime you get from your real job before you quit.
3. Don't get a loan.
4. Don't buy a bunch of PowerBook laptops and 23" monitors on a maxed out credit card.
5. Quit job, but do it nicely - they will still use you for freelance work if you leave respectfully.
