If I'm stuck for a vector based logo it's always a good idea to dowload a pdf, say of a annual report etc. from the companys website, open it up in illustrator and size it accordingly.
If its a pixel based logo i.e. the BMW with the embossing, you may be better off just contacting the companies artwork dept. Tell them what you are doing, you may be suprised by their helpfulness and efficiency!
