doing this kind of work is like pulling teeth and then putting them back in again. I would advise using png's from photoshop saved at 300dpi. It depends on your client's machine spec and system app. Word surprisingly has incredibly strong compression qualities. trial and error I am afraid as well as memorising some sort cuts keys
