Sony's are ok, but they've only recently started making quality hardware/software as far as laptops go. I will probably only buy vaios, but they aren't perfect.
Toshiba and IBM are good and sturdy. They are dependable.
Stay away from HP and Compaq, and even Dell. Dell will sell you a brick.
