you are wrong.
the friend i was talking about who was just approached by black label would love to do the graphics. it's what he loves to do. he's probably done over 300 deck graphics in the last 20 years. but he has a family and a mortgage. he simply can't do it for cheap. he has to eat.
and as far as "do what you love, and it'll come back around". it never came around for him. now he's too "old school" to get work. He's damn talented, but his skill set is: drawing on illustration board and making separations for screenprinting.
Multi-million dollar corporations paying less than $500 for a weeks worth of work too a highly skilled illustrator with that much experience is just plain shameful.
now i'm getting mad.
