I don't mean any disrespect, but when something looks good, it's done. weather it's design rule check off list is full of checks or not.
I've heard a lot of art directors in my life have nothing else to say about good work, so they whip out some design rules, just to have input.
nowadays the only thing original to do is be natural, and not confine your work to these rules.
