The best brand is microtek, either the 5400 or the 4800 series. (I work part time at best buy). Of the two models, the have roughly 8 times the scan quality of the HP and cannons: 1200x1200 (HP) vs 4800x2400 (Microtek). Plus you aren't paying for the HP name, prices run from about 100 to 150 for the 4800 and 5400 series.
