np. Robbie's right, a printer usually has a proofing system in house as well. All they are is high end proofs that (in theory) show exactly how the file should reproduce in ink. In the old days, they were contact proofs meaning that they were actually made by physically laying each piece of film from the color seps and exposing them to create a 4 color process image. Now, a lot of them are digital only. No real film involved.
