i'm in-house for a public broadcaster. it's the best job i've ever had, i get to learn loads, every project is different from the last, nice people etc. sometimes the hours suck but that's just creative jobs generally.
i've also worked in-house before this and it was shit. and i've freelanced and worked for agencies etc - basically whether it's inhouse or not doesn't matter, it's the type of work and the people around you that make a job, imo.
