Hou're stretching it a bit too far, IMO. I guess you haven't been to Poland. We are antiaesthetic. I've never seen a country with our amount of bad typography and ugly houses. Even our beautiful women and old poster school (70's, long gone now) don't make up for this.
Other than that, you're right about NE. A friend of mine put it this way: the Scandinavian had to do something about having little natural light. Hence Ikea and clean, bright colors that keep them from depression. I kind of like this idea and look forward to seeing Polish designers bring it to life too, since our country isn't very sunny either.
