I rearrange things when Im at a restaurant. icons and desk are a mess tho.
.. I set morning alarms on an odd minute other than 5.. if I dont I almost always oversleep.

I didnt do the spec thing as a kid, but I used to stare at the bright blue sky outside a car window.. till I saw little imperfections in my eye lens. I used to track them.
