Analysis first, don´t matter if it´s ´documented´ or in your head only. Figure out purpose, objectives, ´must have´s, corp identity, what they´re trying to communicate.
Then I ´become the client´ (read mags, and everything I can find out about the client´s business) -- then I ´become the user´ -- same deal, from the end user´s perspective.
That´s the ´absorption´ stage. Then I finally sit down and an image seems to just ´appear´ in my head based on everything i´ve found out. Then it´s a matter of putting that image into a visible format (usually a PSD), get approval, embellish it, put a layer of ´make up´ on to make it sexy, and finally cut up and implement.
That worx for me.
