Well be happy you aren't using a PC. Illustrator will open a file almost all the way and then promp a warning saying "can not complete opperation" then it will crash OOOH good ..... Keep readin.
to keep that your mac from freakin with that file not saving. go through and try and simply your design with compound masks or deleting some unused layers.. or try imbeding any images you have imported into your Illu file. i have also goten that prob too...
