Ok:
Here is my experience.
I have a powerbook g4, running osx, yadda yadda yadda..
I plug it everyday to a pc monitor, no problem.
As far as the network thing..
well, even today I could never get online on the network, I dont know its the router or what..
Making pc's and mac's talk to each other is not as easy as somebody wrote earlier, but its duable.
