I'm not in the UK so I can't be much help.
But for most used cars you can check out little things to see if it's been wrecked before. Run your finger between the seams of the bonnet (between front fenders) to see if it tightens up. Then you know the bonnet doesn't line up properly. Also check the edge of the bonnet nearest the windscreen to see if you feel any "new paint".
As long as its nice and straight and the service records are there, I'd say go for it.
