i second koh tao- it really is beautiful. there are some amazing beaches on koh phangan as well. had kom and ang thong nai pan yai are beautiful and quiet. thing about thailand is if you end up on the wrong beach with a bunch of european tourists it really takes away from the vibe. the right beach is key. i went to this place called the sanctuary on koh phangan. great vibe, wellness center, reall great food, stoner vibe, yoga - v cool people. but not the best beach we went to. btw both of these are not on the side that got hit by the tsunami.
