as students we lost £1000 in deposit cos of a prick landlord. We threatened to take him to court but he didn't give a shit. Stopped answering our calls (ofcourse he vetted all his calls via answering machine first). In the end we gave up, but shouldn't have.
Take him to small claims court and leave him in no doubt that he'll end up paying double in your legal costs.
