He was a brave and ingenious writer, though he was also a very disturbed freak. The drugs caught up to him, his health went downhill, and he was in a constant state of fear and loathing.
He probably took too much essence of human pineal gland, looked at the television and imagined he saw a 13 headed Richard Nixon monster with pink neon tentacles. Seeing no hope for an apocalyptic America he pulled out his 8mm and blew his brains out.
