I JUST LEARNED THIS STUFF BECAUSE I'M SUING SOMEONE THAT OWES ME MONEY:
they will have a judgment entered against you if you do not answer the summons.
once they have judgment they can do any of the following things:
-garnish your wages
-file an abstract of judgment which will not allow you to buy or sell property until the debt and all of it's interest is paid off.
-take all of the money out of your bank account
-garnish you spouses wages
-collect money that is owed to you by others
-take possession of your vehiclethese are all of the things i can think of right now. there are a lot of other things. of course i'm applying california law but if you're in the U.S. most likely any or all of the above can happen to you. you should consult an attorney or pay off the debt. but for sure you better answer. you do not want a judgment against you.
