shoreditch has the most deziney bars and clubs in one spot. every second person there is either a designer, photographer, architect, director or stylist. if you want to live close to there for cheap, stoke newington/dalston is cheap (but the public transport isn't great and it "has character" ie it's a bit dodge).

west london (ladbroke grove, kensal rise, westbourne park, queens park etc) is nicer to live in cos they actually have trees, but is more expensive and the bars are more spaced out. it's fashionable but in a more suburban way, more for your young professionals balancing kids and a coke habit. chelsea and kensington will be too expensive unless you have a sugar daddy to put you up.

south london has some really good bits (especially near the tate modern) but again, public transport is kinda shite. do not go anywhere near loughborough junction in heels or you'll be mugged.

you'd have to be quite lucky to get somewhere super central for cheap, but it can happen. if it is very cheap do some research into why - ie the bit behind euston station is really cheap but has the highest mugging rate in the capital. also hanway street near tottenham court road is cheap but drunk men will piss on your walls every night and you'll probably meet kuz doing crack in the alley.
