I think it's a polite gesture to have one last Valentine's day together, but personally I couldn't do it. I would see it as an empty gesture whose only purpose is to relieve guilt on either side. Part as friends, but why delay the inevitable? That would just torture me, like a final count down. Allow yourself to hurt, cry, yell, you deserve it.
I'm probably going to get my ass kicked for liking this band, but their music seems to clean my blood (3 albums in particular). I don't know if this song will help, I used it to accept what happened and to move on with all i "had left" of me because I didn't want to lose any more of myself. This is a link to the video.
