Im the same way, never shut down my computer, just put it to sleep.
Only after installing new soft, or an update.
Have you tried reparing permissions?
Shift + Command + U
Then select disc utility, and click on Repair permisions, I do that on mine around once a month.
It suppouse to speed up the system, I dont really know if it does or not, but I read that somewhere so why not?;)
